When it rains in Floods September 4, 2023
Hello Everyone,
This week has probably been one of the craziest that I have had on the mission. Please allow me to tell you of how my week started.
After getting a haircut from one of our members we headed down to Kennesaw to stay the night with the ZL's. We did this because all of us were going to go finding at the KSU campus. I say were because that is not what happened. As we were heading out the door we got a picture from a member in our ward. (Included down below) This picture showed that our apartment complex in Calhoun was flooded. That is when we realized that it was going to be a very different day than what we planned.
Elder Nehorai, and I left KSU campus to see what the damage was. Just to let you know we were 45 minutes away from our apartment. When we got there we saw that the entire parking lot was covered in dried up mud. The water did get into apartment and cover the first floor with a layer of mud. Thankful our study desks were fine and most of our belonging were up stairs. Unfortunately all of my clothes were in the dryer down stairs. Yes the water did get into the dryer, and yes my clothes were completely soaked in the dryer. Ironic. The water got into the fridge, say goodbye to our salad and baby carrots.
Now at this point y'all are probably wondering how this happened. Something to know about Georgia is that rains a lot. Monday Night/Tuesday Morning it pored a lot of Rain. A lot rain doesn't go well when your apartment complex is shaped like a bowl. Also people cut tree branches down but didn't clean them up the day or so before. This is what caused the drain to be clogged. We spent our entire day cleaning up and clearing out. Anything we could save we did, everything else we tossed into a dumpster. If you are wondering where we are living now, the answer would be on the street. Just kidding. We are living with the ZL's, and for those that remember, we do live 45 Minutes away from the ZL's. That means that everyday we are traveling 90 miles just to go to and from our area.
So that was our week, a whole of traveling and finding people to teach. And now for the spiritual part of the week.
I am amazed with how much the Gospel helped me through the flooding of our apartment. I wasn't scared, I was calm, I wasn't upset. It was what it was, nothing I could do about it, but I could control my attitude towards it. I could only do this because of the change that the Gospel has brought in my life.
Also I said last week I would tell y'all about Juan. So Juan is someone who the Spanish missionaries have been teaching online, but Juan actually lives in our area and is 10 minutes from the church building. He has accepted the invitation to be baptized on the 16th. Because our church building is much closer and we have some Spanish speakers he is going to be baptized in our ward. He is a very nice, and doesn't speak any English. He came to the Calhoun ward and said he would be back.
On the note of church we had a lot of friends come to church. One was a less active member whom we have been meeting with for a while. The last lesson we had with her she felt the spirit strongly and testified of the importance of the sacrament. She said that she wants to come to church. Not only did she come to church, but she got up and bore her testimony of how she knows the Book of Mormon is true.
It was a great week, with many people found. Many lessons. We even had an entire day with only one rescheduled lesson. I could go on and on, but this email is already long enough.
I know how much the Gospel blesses those who follow its teachings. I will never get tired of having my soul filled by reading the scriptures. Reading of the teachings that are timeless, will always lift me up. I know that God gave us the scriptures so that we could build our faith and know who Jesus Christ is. I love that I know who Jesus Christ is. I know He lives. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
Us being us
